Lutyens Delhi is named after the British architect, Sir Edwin Lutyen, who was associated with architectural design during the British period in the early 20th century. HUMAYUN TOMB: Lastly, we will go to Humayu’s Tomb which is situated at the junction of Mathura Road and Lodhi Road, this monumental (Humayun) Tomb is considered to be the first substantial work in Mughal architecture in India. It was designed and constructed in 1565 AD, nine years after the demise of Humayun, by his elder widow, Bega Begam. The important elements in the tomb are the well-proportioned quadrilateral gardens (chaharbagh) with pathways and water channels, centralized well, and a mausoleum topped by two domes. This architecture worked as an inspiration to several other important architectures from the Mughal period, including the Taj Mahal.
