It was designed and constructed in 1565 AD, nine years after the demise of Humayun, by his elder widow, Bega Begam. The important elements in the tomb are the well-proportioned quadrilateral gardens (chaharbagh) with pathways and water channels, centralized well, and a mausoleum topped by two domes.
